another quilt

I reeeeally love my newest quilt! And it is the most beautifully made homemade quilt I've found at my little thrift store. I didn't hesitate to pay $19.99 either for the full-size quilt... it is that exquisite! Love the old fabrics. Remember the flannel baby quilt with the knotless knots... well the same with this one. They hid the knot strings on both sides! And it is pretty much all flannel too... so soft & cuddly.

You will all think I'm crazy when you hear what I passed up... or that I am taking a gamble on... it will be half-off on Saturday, so I am thinking if it's meant to be, it'll still be there. Drum-roll please.... a Cathedral-Window quilt! If you know anything about cathedral-window quilts, they are totally handmade... all hand-stitching... with your hands, not with a machine... and simply breathtaking... but with some yellowing stains here and there. They priced it at $45.00. Sooo, we'll see...

Years ago I started a cathedral-window quilt, and as you can see I have not gotten too far. But the thing I love about doing this particular quilt is... totally portable, all hand stitching and I can use fabric from an old worn quilt that my Grandma made, fabric that Randy's Grandma and sister had clothes made from, fabrics that tell a story about my years growing up, the shirt I made for Randy when we were dating and various clothes and costumes I made for the kids over the years. It's like a soft scrapbook that you can wrap yourself around... a reminder of the memories that warm our hearts.

Linda, I just love all the quilts you find. I have 2 made by my great grandmother back in the early 1900's. They were stained, but I washed them with dreft, hung them to dry and they look new. My goal is to make the new baby a quilt when we find out what it is this month.
Love Brandi

I made a baby quilt once for my sister...wonder what ever happened to it. I took a quilting class long ago and still have the quilt squares that I made. I've thought of making pillows or even framing them, but have never gotten around to it. I need to dig them out some time and do something with them. The squares are fun, but the finishing is a bit boring.

I just spent the last hour reading you ENTIRE blog! You ae my kind of gal! I have a Christmas village similar to yours except mine is all Grocery Stores, I love old quilts, I have an old watering can collection, I have a stack of wicker picnic baskets, I scrapbook, I live and die for thrifts and yard sales, I only shop Clearnace sections, I am a coupon a-holic, I nearly wreck the car driving through town on Spring Clean Up day looking for goodies, etc. We were cut fromt he same cloth! Consider yourself bookmarked and linked on my blog!

What pattern is your quilt? It looks like a fan but now quite. We bought two quilts at an estate sale last weekend.

Another great find. You go Girl!

Many years ago I made a little cathedral window make up bag. I can imagine it took a LONG time to make an entire quilt.

Will be watching to see what you decide.

What a great quilt you found. But the cathedral window quilt is really sweet. I don't believe I have ever seen one before. And thanks so much for the suggestion for my headboard problem. I love your idea!!

Great find, loving the colors in that quilt. Don't you wish sometimes that you could hide that special item in the thrift store somewhere so you could be assured it was yours on half price day?

Cathedral Windows is my favorite quilt design. I am dying to make one, but the project just seems too enormous to take on. But they are so beautiful, some day...
