pyrex promotion

When I started collecting PYREX 25 years ago, I made a decision that I would not collect any Pyrex with 'cinderella' handles. Two reasons, they take up more space and I just didn't like the look. Too modern. That is... until I saw this color (hello! aqua!) and design (whimsical & artsy)! This "Hot Air Balloon" pattern was introduced as a 1958 Promotion. That's almost 50 years ago! Well, that's when I knew... I had to have one! But I wanted the smallest from the 3 bowl nesting set. I always prefer the smallest size... they're just cuter. And just so you know, FOR ME, it's no fun finding it on Ebay. I don't do Ebay. I get a bigger thrill just letting it find me... when I least expect it. So I go to a yard sale down the street on Saturday and there it is * one dollar * all mine! Can't you just see it filled with buttons!

My other thrifty finds-
A yo-yo crocheted doily runner... this and another one for only a dollar... not quite sure what to do with them, they are rather long. Love the raised flowers on the round tin... and the soft, fuzzy turquoise wired thingy. It's a 'thingy' when I'm not sure what it's called. But you knew that.

What a great find. I have never seen the hot air balloon pattern on pyrex. I would fill that bowl full of jelly beans! It's a great Easter color.

I'm glad the Copa went well!! I just saw your post of your Lady Banks Rose bush. Mine is in bloom also and just yesterday, I was thinking of posting a picture of it. It's blooms delight me so much this time of year.

Well hello you thrifty gal! I'm admiring your bowls and then I spied your apron! Ahhhhh - love the apron! But that bowl is adorable! I've never seen the pattern before either.

Anywho, I followed you over here from Petticoat Lane and I'm dying to see the Pyrex you spoke of on her comments there!

I didn't know those were called "Cinderella" handles--I learned something here today. I love the aqua color, too.

I agree it's more fun to find the items when you are out thrifting...more economical, too.

More fun stuff ... but I have a question, what do you do with all of your stuff? :)
Didn't know about the Cinderella handles. And now when I go to sales, and I find Pyrex, I will always think if Linda! Happy Day!

Hi, I've just been browsing through your blog and enjoyed the post about your cookbooks. I love old cookbooks and I'll have to take a picture one of these days and post them as well. I have a Betty Crocker "New" Good and Easy cookbook that I gave to my mom February 1964. It is a complelty useless cookbook, even back then I loved the pictures but because it required Bisquick and other goodies that my mom never bought, it was seldom used. I still love it though just because of the sentimental value.

I love the roses and the pyrex bowls as well. Nice to visit.

Love your finds. I'm with you on ebay. I use it for other things like magazine subs but not for my collections. Now, when out thrifting I think of you when I see pyrex. I'll keep my eye for this pattern. It is way too cute.

Cheers! LA
