Life's better on a deck

... especially if your life is not going as planned.
So you get in your vehicle and head north. Desperate for clarity. For peace.

You sit. You commune with nature... with friends that understand.

You find nourishment for your soul.

And although nothing has changed, you clearly see your need to depend on God for your security. You see your need to give up the control and put your trust in Him. For His plans.

I recently found this quote in the book Crazy Love by Francis Chan, that stopped me in my tracks. This is me to a tee. But God saw fit to allow everything to change. Everything. And it has rocked my world. It has revealed things about me that I did not know till my security was taken away... jobs, health insurance, savings, retirement, my health.

"Lukewarm people do not live by faith; their lives are structured so they never have to.  They don't have to trust God if something unexpected happens- they have their savings account.  They don't need God to help them- they have their retirement plan in place.  They don't genuinely seek out what life God would have them live- they have life figured and mapped out.  They don't depend on God on a daily basis- their refrigerators are full and, for the most part, they are in good health.  The truth is, their lives wouldn't look much different if they suddenly stopped believing in God."

I'm not handling it well. I have a long ways to go. It's one step forward, two steps backwards.
But I remain in the race, however painful it may feel at times.
Thank you for remaining a faithful reader... and for your prayers. Means a lot.

I'm very sorry to hear that things are tough for you and your husband Linda. I've grown to appreciate your family so much as I've followed your blog over the past number of years. I'll be praying that God reveals all that He has for you and Randy, in spite of the disappointments that have been yours over this past few years. I have no "pat" answers but I believe the one thing that hasn't changed is that God is faithfully walking along side you both as you encounter this more difficult path.

Oh Linda,
You know I think about you often.
We need to get together next time I am out there.
There is so much wisdom in what you wrote.
We always are sure everyone else has it all together. But life has a way of shaking things up and turning our lives upside down.
My Mom is not doing well. I worry so.
Sending hugs and prayers friend,
Cindy

This is Randy,
Yes, things are real hard. I am still looking for a job with regular pay and benefits and after 2 years I have only had one interview and that was with a company that only pays me for contacts and selling products. Needless to say, it didn't work out. Thanks for caring about us and I hope God will provide a steady income soon so I can help with all the financial necessities of keeping our home, cars, insurance and everything else that we are responsible for each month. Your prayers mean a lot and we thank you all for caring and telling us that you are thinking of us and praying for us. God isn't done with us and He hasn't forgotten us. I am living everyday believing He still sees and He can do anything. Keep us in your prayers and if any of you know of any jobs that I could do I would appreciate you letting us know.
